Page 1 of 4 A Story in Stones
Dalraida United Methodist Church celebrated its 51st anniversary in February with a special service dedicated to continuing the vision of those who first formed this church. This year, the Dalraida congregation, "Continuing the Dream" of the 55 charter members from 1950, added new classrooms, offices, handicapped-accessible bathrooms and a covered entryway and dedicated the additions at its February 11 service. The church has a rich history. In the 1940s, Dalraida was then a small community outside the city limits of Montgomery. Several Methodist families in the area expressed a desire for a neighborhood church. Meetings were held, including the first service leading to the organization of a Methodist church for the Dalraida area. The first service was held at Dalraida Baptist Church February 5, 1950. In June 1950, on Charter Sunday, 55 people placed their membership in the young church. In the spring of 1950, the congregation purchased land on the Atlanta Highway for the church site. (For a complete timeline of the church's history, see information below.)
